Curtis Crest Tree Top Walk

The Curtis Crest Tree Top Walk is a 13-meter-high observation deck at the Habitat Penang Hills that provides superb views over Penang. This place is one of the best attractions at Habitat Penang Hill & serves as the island's highest public observation point, with seating for up to 120 people. You will also be able to capture the views of stunning islands along with the governor's residence, Bel Retiro on a clear sunny day.

In the 1890s, visitors to the hill used this platform as one of the first English facilities in Malaya. In the early days of the town, the East India Company used it as a military parade field, and the soldiers stationed here kept a look out for arriving warships. They could send the signal to Fort Cornwallis in George Town, that was far below, to inform the inhabitants and prepare for combat if they sighted one.

Located on the grounds of a former experimental garden established by famous botanist Charles Curtis in the 18th century. Several species of plants on Penang Hill are named in honor of Charles Curtis, hence the attraction was named "Curtis Crest" in honour of the historical figure. Dacrydium Elatum, a native conifer planted during Charles Curtis' early days, provides the natural oval shape that informed the walkway's design.

At around 800 meters above sea level, a metal mesh pathway extending through the top canopies of the conifers was built to gradually allow the coniferous trees to engulf the walkway. The aim was to provide guests a once in a lifetime experience while allowing uninterrupted viewpoints of the island. The Curtis Crest experience is like rising to the top of the tree to get "that" wonderful perspective! It's like strolling on a carpet of fresh pine needles through a beautiful montane forest! This historic plateau is now a popular location for private events including nuptials, parties, celebrations, and picnics. Visit the famous attractions with the Habitat Penang Hill tickets.
